Mary K. Allen collection [photographs], 1990-2005.

The Mary K. Allen Collection documents Mary's interest in the rock art of the American West with particular emphasis on the Grand Canyon and the Colorado Plateau. The slides and digital photo files show sites in encyclopedic detail. Mary also took many photos of participants on her float trips on the Colorado and Green Rivers plus many scenic photographs of the places she visited, both by boat and on foot. This collection may be the best and most comprehensive look at American prehistoric rock art available to the public. The photographs reveal a huge variety of styles, encompassing locations from California to New Mexico, and Utah to southern Arizona. The quality of the photography is uniformly excellent, and the careful attention to detail make it an ideal vehicle for research. Mary combined the sensitivity of an artist with the care and curiosity of a scientist, making this collection a rare find in expanding our knowledge of western American prehistory.
